I'm planning a quick trip in February for the kids to play in the snow. We're in London and need some ideas. My little one's is so eager to build a snowman. Any suggestions would be great, thanks!

I don’t think it’s snowed anywhere since last week and the week before? Maybe Scotland?

The alps

SpunkyAquaSnail · 17/01/2026 22:29

@SiobahnRoy thanks. Was looking for somewhere here in UK itself.

@andanotherproblem thanks. Have been to Scotland during summer. Quite a drive it is for a short trip, I feel.

But nowhere in the uk is guaranteed to have snow in February.

SpunkyAquaSnail · 17/01/2026 22:34

@SiobahnRoy, oh that's a shame :(

Haha - joke post I presume! Of course no one is going to know where in the UK will be snowy in February! London's quite far south so may get no snow at all....

SpunkyAquaSnail · 17/01/2026 22:39

@cestlavielife , thanks. Great suggestions, looks like fun day out.

@stichguru We are new to UK and have explored not that much. So definitely not a joke post ;). Have been googling to find some places to visit this winter and wasn't getting any clear suggestions, that's all

Oh sorry, so I lived in Kent until I was 18 and then lived in Yorkshire from 18 to 45. You won't get clear suggestions because winter may not get cold enough for snow anywhere. Even in Yorkshire we have winters where we only get a few flakes, if any, snow. There are no guarantees, unless you go to the really far north of Scotland. Some years we get good snow in Yorkshire, it's definately more likely than in Kent. but really no guarantees and you'd have to be ready to go asap, because snow will usually only stick for a day or two when it does come.

Cairngorm mountain near aviemore is a ski resort, unless the weather warms dramatically in the next 3 weeks they will have snow, you can catch a train from London, fly to Inverness or it’s about 8 hours once you are on the m1. The snow dome in Tamworth has artificially created snow to ski on but not sure if you can build snowmen. It’s looking like the weather may cool at the end of this month, if it gets cold enough Buxton in Derbyshire is a place that does get snow, that said you could get lucky and it snows close to home, look at the forecast 10 days before to see

Ah OK @SpunkyAquaSnail I also thought you were joking.

It may or may not snow in February in the UK but no one can tell you if or when or where, sorry. The only place where snow is more or less certain is in the Scottish mountains tbh.

There is a snowdome in Tamworth which is only about an hour and a half from London on the train (about an hour longer if driving) which is quite fun – it’s indoors, lots of snow but no snowmen sorry, just sledging or skiing.
