London - Lime Bike pass

I don’t use Lime but my 15yo son sometimes pays the £3.99 and gets 30 mins. This is very expensive IMO and eating into his savings, so I wondered about getting him some sort of subscription for Xmas. However I can’t figure out if there is such a thing. The website isn’t clear. Can anyone help? Thanks

It doesn’t look like there is. Santander cycles have options for monthly and annual subscriptions which give a fair bit of usage included. You are more limited in where you can collect and leave them but these days you can’t leave lime bikes wherever you like either, there are now dedicated bike parks. Depends where you live though and if you have Santander cycles nearby. When I lived in Highgate it was only lime bikes, the Santander cycles stopped around camden I think.

Thanks @whatdoyourdoggoswantwe don’t have Santander near us either.

There is a Lime Pass you can buy

I just screen shot the offers in my app. Lime Prime looks like what you want

@MumsknotI can see it on the app but it’s not clear to me what you get. I don’t use Lime so was hoping to hear from someone who’d tried the Lime Pass.

The monthly subscription thing isnt worth it. Passes are but the time limit ruins their value. There really isnt a good solution IMO.

looking at lime prime, you still have to pay for the minutes but your unlock fee is covered (and you get extended reservations) but he would need to use it often to make it worthwhile

Mumsknot · 28/12/2025 09:07

I’ve always just paid for it when I use it tbh

i know dp’s son uses the lime pass but he uses it every work day (and it’s cheaper for him than the tube fare!)

I use Lime bikes a lot and pay the monthly pass. For me it’s well worth it. You don’t pay the £1 unlocking fee so it means I do a lot of short trips - dock a bike - dash into a shop - unlock again and ride on. That all adds up when you’re paying a pound each time. The other huge benefit is that it allows you to reserve bikes for up to 30mins in advance. Invaluable if you’re worried about there not being a bike available (eg outside a concert venue or sporting event) or it’s late at night and they are going to be scarce or it’s raining etc. You can look on the map, find one, reserve it and know it will def be there for you. Fantastic.

Thank you, that is really helpful. My son is always late for school and late getting home in the evenings. and we always have to chase... He is definitely be more reliable when he uses Limes. However with TFL Zip card offering free teen travel, it’s hard to justify the cost of the bikes. I can see how it’s great for adults.
