Is it essential to get tickets?

We're staying with friends in Vauxhall for the night, one of whom thinks we can just wander up the river and it'll be fine, the other thinks we need to get tickets or it will be a nightmare. Who is right?

I haven't been since 1999 when I just wandered down to the Embankment and it was fine!

It's important we have a good time because my reason for going is that DC turns 18 at midnight. It would be remembered forever.

Sorry no you can’t get in without a ticket I should say

Thank you. Looking at where Vauxhall is (which is what friend 1 is thinking of because they live there) I guess you could get some view but the curve if the river is going to obscure it even though the fireworks are in the sky.

You can’t get into the perimeter without tickets – it’s all blocked with barriers. You could get a view from elsewhere but it won’t be great further down the river. You’d probably be better off finding a rooftop bar nearby (though they’ll be crammed, but so will the bridge).
