Eating out in Whitby

Hi all! We are off to Whitby next week. We've been many times but tend to eat at the holiday home.

Any recs for pubs/family eating out please? Bonus points for good vegetarian options as well as those for meat eaters!

Trenchers fish and chips.

Funderthighs · 24/10/2025 12:50

Another vote for Trenchers!

Sneaton Castle is nice.

YorkiesForAll · 24/10/2025 12:54

Pizza West is a lovely place to eat. And the Magpie of course!

Yeh Trenchers is very nice, always great service IME tho not been for a bit. Check it’s open tho as pretty seasonal.

Humble Pie and Mash! I go every time we go to Whitby 😁

We always go to White Horse and Griffin a bit more expensive but always good and usually has something decent for veggie option.
Abbey Wharf, good for a family meal and great views of the harbour.
A bit further out, Fish Cottage at Sandsend.

The wharf near the swing bridge is good for an informal meal.
the stables on the outskirts of Whitby always used to be nice but haven’t been for a few years.

Another vote for trenchers

This is interesting to read. I used to work in Trenchers in the early 1990's .
Good to hear it is still going strong. Although I believe it has different owners now.

Whitby is amazing for eating out you’re spoiled for choice really but Trenchers, Mr Chips, Pie & Mash, Fisherman’s Wife and Magpies are all excellent.

MrJumpyLegs · 24/10/2025 21:32

Trenchers!

FetchezLaVache · 24/10/2025 21:33

Another vote for Humble Pie & Mash. Excellent food and always vegetarian options.

TheLurpackYears · 24/10/2025 21:35

Mmmm, Fish Cottage. Make sure you check out the specials board.

isitmyturn · 24/10/2025 21:57

We were there in August six adults including two vegetarians.
Humble Pie and mash was a hit.
We all liked Cosa Nostra, bit pricey but loved the food and the ambience. You need to book.
Kamthai Thai Restaurant near the station was also good.
Not a fan of fish and chips but DS1 had some for lunch one day.

Hi all. Thanks so much for your suggestions. Ate at a pub by the golf course yesterday and the food was delicious.

Unfortunately DS has been sick today (not related to eating out yesterday) and the only takeaway that delivers appears to be Domino's 😭
