Weekend in Glasgow - Hotels and recommendations please

Hi All,
I will be in Glasgow for a weekend with DD22 and I'd be grateful for hotel recommendations. I've seen Malmaison at a reasonable price, but it sounds like it's due a refurb so not sure...

Hotel Indigo possibly? Or the Hilton or Marriott?

Keen to be either city centre or west end.

I know Glasgow from student days so have an idea of how to spend our time but any thoughts on itinerary would be welcome too.

Many thanks!

I’ve stayed at the Malmaison a couple of years ago and it was fine, it’s slim pickings for decent places that aren’t right by one of the stations I find. The room was fine, didn’t have breakfast, I find their soap smell really overpowering but that’s by the by! The Hotel du Vin in the west end is nice, I know they’re the same folk as Mal but I prefer them. Have also stayed in the Novotel which was fine but very dull and what’s now the Leonardo Royal when it was Jury’s which had a really big room but was a bit dodgy late at night.

Have the Blythswood got any good offers? I really like Kimptons but if you’re not going to be in the room for long I’d go for something cheaper.

Thank you @EverythingIsComputer your info is really helpful.

I've gone ahead with the Malmaison as it seemed a pretty good deal and like you say, we won’t be in the room much at all to justify the Blytheswood or Hotel du Vin.

Thanks again!

Malmaison, as you probably know, is a great location because its city centre so easily walkable to most things but on a relatively quiet street. Have you plans when you’re in Glasgow?

Dazedandconfus · 27/10/2025 08:01

@Moneymaybe thank you that's great to know. I thought it was a good location but it's nice to hear the street is quiet.
We don't have specific plans, so very open to any suggestions as it's years since I was in Glasgow.

Kelvingrove art gallery and museum. Stunning building in and out. See Dali’s ‘St John of the Cross’. Catch the ‘chocolate orange’ - the Glasgow Underground - to the correct station - think Kelvinside rather than Kelvingrove, but can’t remember. Was in Glasgow recently after years and see that the underground has been recently refurbished and appears, as always was, to be clean and safe.

Also in that area you have the Botanic Gardens and lovely walks along River Kelvin and elegant Georgian red sandstone terraces of the lovely west end. Byres Road tube station close by to glasgow uni and the Hunterian Museum - used to have good cafe and excellent mummies (of Egyptian not Kelvinside heritage!).

For shopping, you’ll want Buchanan Street.

Byers Road now quite ‘boogie’! Saw mini Waitrose and several nice cafes restaurants and delis.

Dazedandconfus · 27/10/2025 09:24

@EvelynBeatrice thanks so much! Great suggestions, I will start to put a plan together.
Any nice Asian fusion type restaurants that come to mind, either centrally or over towards Byres Road?

I can’t think I’m afraid. But given how excellent Glasgow has always been for curry, sure that there will be great places.

The Dakota is my favourite, or the Sandman signature is also good but a cheaper option. We stay in both regularly.

Nanakusa on sauchiehall st for some excellent sushi, only about five minutes walk from your hotel. Unassuming from outside, but so good. If you’re in the west end, then Ka Pao is brilliant. The restaurant scene in Glasgow is so good these days!

Ohgoonthenanotheronefortheroad · 31/10/2025 21:16

The Stand Comedy Club if you like a bit of stand up!

Maybe a bit late but I second the Ka Pao recommendation. Same people who do Ox and Finch and Margo, which are also good.

Glasgow is the home of 6 by Nico. Reasonably priced tasting menu. Never disappoints.

Lillipops · 08/11/2025 19:06

The Radisson Red or Radisson Blue are lovely. For Asian food Lychee is fabulous and also Chaupraya if you’re looking for something a bit fancy

Dazedandconfus · 08/11/2025 19:49

Amazing thank you all for more recommendations! I will take a look tomorrow - we go next weekend, really looking forward to it 😁

Ashton lane is pretty. I ate in Ashoka Indian restaurant which was really nice, but there are other bars and restaurants there too. Also ate at Two Fat Ladies at the Buttery which was really good but £££s! Wandered into Glasgow University grounds just before dusk and the cloisters were very prettily decorated with lights.
