This is the bees knees

Helmsley is a lovely little village and theres a nice place nearby called Rievaulx where you can do a nice walk with a little stream for the kids to dip in.

As is this
I havent heard anyone not rave about this place.

We used to go there for Sunday lunch quite alot Northern Always wanted to buy a house there too! Alas my dream came to nothing

not a pub, but abbots thorn B&B in coverdale is probably the best B&B I have ever had. They serve evening meals as well as breakfast, and the lady who runs it is a superb cook. The evening meal is 5 courses (for £20) and beats a gastro pub in my opinion. It's in a gorgeous place, the views are stunning. Just noticed though, they don't take kids under 12 (darn! That means I have 11.5 years before I can go back!!)

bluesky · 05/06/2008 19:52

whoops, thanks northern, confusing it with the Hart near me!

oooh, whats going on at the Star then? It hasn't changed hands or anything has it.

They do the cafe at Scampston, the lovely garden place. Took my Mum there last year, she loves it. That would be something nice to do shoppingbagsundereyes.

popsycal · 05/06/2008 19:55

crab and lobster
the compass and something

northernrefugee39 · 06/06/2008 10:34

bluesky, the Star just hasn't been up to scratch the last times we've been there for birthday meal etc. I had fish which was watery, sea bass I think, obviously frozen not fresh, and someone had a very disappointing risotto. They are always on the list of best country pub things in the Sunday papers, and it is very expensive, I would expect superb food; maybe we hit unlucky twice running. As far as I know I heard there is a domestic situation, but the same people..... Although the room you can have to yourself if you ask, with wall paintings and stuff is wonderful.

northernrefugee39 · 06/06/2008 10:36

The Abbey Inn at Byland abbey is stunning location and good food.

bluesky · 06/06/2008 19:51

The Abbey Inn has been in lots of papers recently, three wonderful rooms and great food, its on my list for next trip up!

northernrefugee39 · 07/06/2008 16:47

We had a lovely meal there with my brother and family. You feel as if you're sitting in the ruins...

Saturn74 · 07/06/2008 16:51
