Stratford upon Avon in December

I’ve booked three nights at a cheap hotel between Xmas and new year. We’re a family of 5 with kids aged between 9-14. I’ve booked to see a play and will spend a day doing Shakespeare sites. I’m trying to find something to do on the other day as a treat (this is their Xmas present as we don’t really do many presents)
is Warwick castle going to be worth it at Christmas? And the ice skating there? It’s very expensive and I’m worried we’ll spend all day being cold and bored 😂
Or is there something else it’s worth looking at? Or would two days in Stratford be better to focus on? I’ve been but years ago.

I don't think there will be enough in Stratford for two days with kids that age, tbh. I haven't been to Warwick Castle for years and never in winter, but I think it could be nice, so long as you're dressed for whatever the weather is. You won't be cold when skating.

Yes ice skating at Warwick Castle (do book beforehand) and then maybe the transport museum in Coventry? It’s quite extensive and actually quite good for kids and you can have a quick zip into town for food/coffee and maybe a mooch round the Coventry Cathedral ruins? There is quite a bit of history there.

Warwick Castle is an excellent day out.
Birmingham isn’t far away and lots to do there. The Cadbury factory was a good visit, if it’s open

The butterfly farm at Stratford on Avon is good. There's also boat trips you can do.

I really didn't think much of Warwick Castle at all when we went. I enjoy most things but I just didn't really get why it's so popular. There wasn't ice skating when we went though. Perhaps that makes it better.

MAD museum in stratford is good for an hour or so.
Warwick Castle is expensive imo and not great value for money, especially in winter.

There's some nearby national trusts if you're members.

There’s loads to do in Stratford!
tudor world

Toca social
F1
cricket simulator whatever it’s called

Don't come to Birmingham, OP, unless there's something you really want to see or do. The city centre is pretty horrible now and I really wouldn't recommend it as a city break, unfortunately.

Make sure to visit Magic Alley.
