Moving from London to Lichfield Staffordshire

Hi all! My partner and I are contemplating a move to Lichfield next year. After spending 20 years in London, we're feeling the pull of change, especially with family nearby in Tamworth. We enjoyed a staycation there this summer and fell in love with the area for many reasons. The difference in property values compared to London is also astonishing.

My partner is excited about the move, but I'll admit I'm feeling a bit nervous. Although I'm from a nearby town, I've spent my entire adult life in London, where all my friends and work are.

I’d love to connect with other Londoners who have made the leap to Staffordshire or Lichfield. What has your experience been like? How was the transition? I’ll still be commuting twice a week for work, and I found the journey manageable during our staycation, but I’d appreciate hearing any insights or tips you might have about living there. Are there specific areas we should be mindful of?

Thanks in advance!

I moved from London to Lichfield (not directly).

It’s a good place to live if you’re not too worried about clubbing/big nights out any more.

It’s very friendly with lots of cafes/bars/theatre/lovely things to do.
They are house building like crazy all over the city, so it’s not as green as it was and houses are overpriced, IMO, as it’s a market town and ‘desirable’ so you can get much more for your money in surrounding villages and towns.

It’s a nice place, overall.
Not multicultural at all and people can be very backward in their views compared to London, but I think that’s the case in a lot of places.

Thank you so much for your honest answer. We did really like Alrewas as our favourite nearby village but Lichfield just seemed to have a little more to do. My clubbing days are certainly over now so we are looks for a nice big family home but something still a little cosmopolitan.

Me and my hubby are a mixed couple so that does worry me coming out of London because I don’t know how accepting people are in smaller places and the racism at present is awful. Hopefully they will calm down!

I didn’t realise Lichfield had a theatre so that’s nice to hear
