Beware “free” national trust family pass

Beware if you are trying to use the free family pass from a newspaper. The website this directs you to for participating locations makes no mention of Fountains Abbey being excluded. I even asked my daughter to check as well. When we got to Fountains Abbey they said the voucher was not valid there and we would have to pay £52 ! No way. The lady in the queue next to me also had the voucher, had rung NT head office to check before travelling 2 hours with children to get there and had the same problem. The staff were totally inflexible and I am disgusted with this treatment. I wonder how many other people were sucked into paying admission on the back of false advertising.

Beware

WaneyEdge · 29/07/2025 16:58

It isn’t on the list of places that accept the family pass though?

PennyAnnLane · 29/07/2025 17:07

God forbid you should pay to enter a NT property? It’s not like they have running costs and staff to pay!

LuckyNumberFive · 29/07/2025 17:08

Looking at the NT website it's not included in the list of sites that accept the free family pass. And then on the Fountains Abbey page it specifically says it's not accepted.

What website did you check??

LottieMary · 29/07/2025 21:47

Fountains is a bit of an anomaly as the ownership is actually split with English Heritage iirc but it’s all run by NT.
so it’s often not in these offers

Bjorkdidit · 29/07/2025 21:51

That's new as I've used the previous passes to go there.

Mimsykins · 31/07/2025 11:48

As others have said its not on the list and it says on the Fountains Abbey info page it's not included in a yellow box plus when when you arrive there's a number of signs up saying that it's not included. This was on you I think. It's a fabulous place, definitely worth the money.
