Recommendations for York or Edinburgh Hotel Christmas Packages

We are looking for a hotel with a traditional,festive atmosphere in either of these two cities. Staying from Christmas Eve to December 27th. Preferably full board, We'll be travelling by train so would like somewhere within easy reach of the station. This will be the first Christmas for decades with just the two of us so the cost is less important than staying somewhere special.

I’ve just been looking at the Scotsman and it’s fully booked, I think this may be quite common

The Balmoral in Edinburgh if budget isn't an issue. you can't get much closer to the station!
Or the Waldorf Astoria (Caley to the locals).
Prestonfield House is probably quite special but it's a bit out of the city centre.
