Ideas for New Year's getaway with 2 year old and DM

My DD passed away suddenly just after News Years day last year after a brief illness just ahead of Christmas. As a result Christmas and New Year's was last year spent in hospital for the whole family.
This year I would like to take my DM away, she already agreed a trip away would be nice after last years events.
There will be myself, DH and 2 year old DD with my DM. Ideally we take our dog too as maybe difficult to get boarding around that time.

Looking for any suggestions really especially child and dog friendly places around News years time so late December into early January. Anywhere in the UK is fine, we are Midlands based and definitely looking to travel outside of this area.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

What sort of getaway are you wanting? Self catering property in the middle of nowhere, self catering or hotel close to attractions (note that many close at that time of year in rural areas and even big cities), a hotel with entertainment and NYE parties etc?
To be completely honest, I find going away at that time of year so dependent on the weather making it a success or flop, and you need to be so careful with planning activities, meals out etc due to things being closed, that I'd book the dog in boarding now and fly off to somewhere with guaranteed sunshine!!

The forest lodges at Kielder Waterside are cosy in the winter, and it’s so peaceful there - you definitely feel like you’re away from it all. Some of the lodges are dog friendly and there are several playgrounds, plus a decent restaurant on site, indoor pool and wellness area.
