My husband has been caught doing 68 in a 60 on the M1. Will he get points and a fine or will there be other options?

I was caught during roadworks in covid on the M6 with ever changing speed limits. 54 in a 40mph, not excusing myself I was just following the flow of traffic. I had option of points or speed course.

Do people not know how to google anymore? AI even summaries for you these days! First result:

In the UK, driving 8 mph over the speed limit typically falls under Band A for speeding fines. The penalty for this includes a fixed penalty of £100 and 3 points on your driving license. In some cases, you may also be offered a speed awareness course as an alternative to the fine and points.

Has he had a ticket or noticed his speed on the dash when flashed? If the latter, your car speedo is approx 10% less than it's actual speed...... it's a safety measure apparently. Guess where I learnt that..... speed awareness course!

We are just at the point of them enquiring who is driving. It was definitely him as l took over my driving duties once we got to the M25. So they definitely have proof and are proceeding

Not the first result for me when l google. Plus the first entry is usually AI these days so often not super accurate

If husband has no points on his driving licence he may get a training course at about 80 in price in pounds but no point s

He has no points and has never done a speed awareness course before

It was on the M1 in Bedfordshire but l assume he can do speed awareness on Teams? As we don’t live in Bedfordshire

@FloraBotticelli

'Do people not know how to google anymore?'

I'm sorry to say it's the way of youngsters today.

Although, to be fair, when I was 'that age', I didn't know how to do the Locomotion, and I struggled with the Twist.

I did, I thought, perform the Birdie Song dance pretty well, whilst the Magistrate disagreed and still imposed a fine! So that's the last time I will bother going to a Maundy Thursday ceremony.

However, I still don't know how to Google...

You can choose where to attend a Speed Awareness course. There's no requirement to travel to the area the speeding occurred.

I'm not sure if they're held on Teams. The one I attended was in person, no option for online attendance.

Ilikewinter · 03/06/2025 19:38

You can do it on teams ..... I'm booked on one next week 🙃

Exactly. I googled, it was vague and l wanted to real life recent experience. Well, my husband did as he’s a bit stressed by it all. Has never been caught speeding or anything like this before. I was doing some research in an attempt to reassure him
