Best transport method or car parking for Cardiff

Hi there I’m planning a visit to Cardiff, going to be shopping and then heading to look around the bay. I’m going to be coming from the Brecon area. If those in the know could advise me if I be better off using public transport or driving that would be helpful, and if driving is there a park and ride option or a better car park that would cover both shopping and the bay area or will I need to move the car? I’m not very mobile at the moment so I’m trying to minimise walking especially very steep routes. Thanks in advance!

I’d move the car. Park in St David’s or John Lewis car park and then move to car park in the Bay. Lots of walking otherwise.

Never had an issue parking in Cardiff. I usually use street parking near the police station and university, not sure of current rates as been over a year but never felt too bad.

I second the on street parking near the police station and university. It’s much quicker to get in and out of Cardiff compared to St David’s multi-storey. I avoid parking there at all costs. You’ll want to drive to the bay as it’s a small trek though.

St David’s Centre or John Lewis are best if you want to shop with the minimum of walking. Then yes, you need to drive to the bay, park in the Pierhead St car park as the Mermaid Quay one is closed at the mo.
