If I loved North Wales, where else will I love?

Just got back from the best holiday with waterfalls, wild seals, castles and mountain climbing. Where else would be good to explore with outstanding natural beauty as well as the usual seaside things, fish and chips, pier etc.

Northumberland, Pembrokeshire, North Devon or North Cornwall out of season, Galloway, the Hebrides, the Highlands, Northern Ireland north coast.

The North Yorkshire Moors is a very beautiful area with plenty of good walks (e.g. parts of the Cleveland Way/Coast to Coast), castles and abbeys to explore (Scarborough Castle, Riveleux, Whitby abbey…), seals at Ravenscar and traditional seaside fun at Whitby or Scarborough.

Northumberland is beautiful and would fit your criteria

MiddleAgedDread · 10/04/2025 13:00

Northumberland has stunning beaches and castles but they're not really beaches with a promenade and pier type beaches like you get around parts of North Wales, and there's nothing I'd consider to be mountainous.

Try further south in Wales, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.
Northumberland is beautiful too (although no mountain climbing!).

Northern Ireland is beautiful.

I assume you have done the Llyn Peninsular?
Then if so Mid wales from Harlech Castle travel south, Borth for surfing
Aberystwyth, Aberaeron, New Quay ( the welsh one) great for Dolphin spotting and Aberporth.

Turmerictolly · 14/04/2025 09:28

Scottish coast, Cornwall, Devon (not mountains but cliff walks).

choc27 · 14/04/2025 10:53

Definitely up for some dolphin spotting! Thanks

The Isle of Man is well worth a visit, it has all of the things you've listed in your OP and more. Plus dolphins - my kids regularly sail & kayak in the summer with the dolphins swimming alongside them.

Ooh that sounds amazing!

2nd that. Castles, steam trains, hill walking, cliff walks, deserted beaches, local rhubarb fizz on a beach with a great sunset.
