Hythe, Folkestone, Margate, Port Lympne, The Rare Breeds Centre. Wonderful walks on the North Downs.

Margate has amusement arcades, a nice old town near the harbour, but the Turner Contemporary has consistently been the most boring art gallery I've ever visited. The Anthony Gormley statue in the sea is fun. Nearby there's The Old Kent Market, which is an indoor food court kind of place, quirky and fun - my teens like it. Dreamland in Margate has a vintage rollercoaster, a few other rides, and regular music gigs etc. If you're there in the daytime, Morrisons car park is probably the best value down the harbour end, but there is a big car park near Dreamland too.,
Herne Bay is closer to Canterbury, has a lovely old-fashioned pier with a helter-skelter, and parking isn't bad. It's close to Whitstable which is nice to wander around in a small town way.

Broadstairs is a cute little seaside town with Dickens connection and a great ice cream / dessert parlour, amongst other things.

There is a good train service between Canterbury and Margate and the station is right by the beach. Whitstable has a lot of nice, one off, shops.
