Day spa: Bath/Bristol area

Looking for a lovely spa for a spa day - somewhere luxurious feeling, with a nice pool, treatments. Not looking for an overnight stay so needs to have day options. Also needs to be accessible by public transport (or a taxi that isn’t too insanely expensive - ie not the middle of nowhere)

Bath?

minnienono · 15/03/2025 07:59

Been to the thermae spa in Bath, gets busy but is nice. City centre so easy for transport, book treatments in advance.

Feelingstrange2 · 15/03/2025 08:00

Pool is small but Longleat Centre Parcs Aqua Sana is fabulous - no idea if its served by buses! Bath have quite a few too but I've never been to actually recommend

@minnienono : I’d wondered about thermae - the website is a doesn’t show much in the way of photos so I wasn’t sure how nice or busy it was inside. Is there space to chill and read a book for example? And it looks like time slots are limited?

Thanks @Feelingstrange2 : will look up the location - assume it’s accessible for non-residents?

Yes the Aqua Sana does offer non resident spa packages.

But it's how to get there as we've only ever been by car and as a resident.

Notexactlyasplanned · 15/03/2025 08:20

Thanks @Feelingstrange2 : looking that up :-)

Just asked my husband and he thinks it's unlikely sadly.

While I was in the aqua sana spa he saw lots of cars coming and going and the sites own land train, but nothing else.

The Gainsborough Bath Spa Hotel and the Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel both do spa days.

Trallia · 15/03/2025 08:45

The main Thermae Spa is nice, but does get very busy. Recently stayed at the Gainsborough Hotel in Bath, where the spa was lovely and quiet at the times we used it free as hotel residents. The space for reading and chilling was a bit tucked away on a balcony though, but ut generally well designed so you feel like you have dome privacy from other guests while using the facilities.

Both are easily walkable from Bath train station.

Cadbury house (double tree by Hilton) has a lovely spa attached to the hotel. Ideal location and beautiful views.

Mufflette · 15/03/2025 09:16

Bristol lido is lovely

It's a sod to get to if you don't drive.

aqua sans looks gorgeous @Feelingstrange2 but sadly looks difficult travel wise. Will remember for the future though!! Likewise Cadbury House @beanys - treatments look lovely.

Will have a look at the Gainsborough and the Macdonald, thanks @HereComesYourMam @Trallia

Therme - No, there really isn't a space to chill. It's quite a busy sort of experience... nice, but not relaxing, treatments are very good though.

Have a look at McDonald Hotel (Bath) Homewood Park (outskirts of Bath), The Royal Crescent (Bath) if you are feeling fancy!

MissBridgetJones · 15/03/2025 21:55

I didn't think much of Cadbury House. Treatment was ok-ish. The pool is basic and on a weekend full of children (no hate, I have kids..) there is a nice relaxation room with cosy beds (might have spent 3 hours reading my book!) away from the pool only available to spa guests.

Lucknam park

littleluncheon · 15/03/2025 22:19

Longleat Aqua Sana is amazing, by far the best spa I've been to. You could get a taxi from Warminster or Westbury stations.

Notexactlyasplanned · 16/03/2025 09:46

Thanks for that on therme @MissBridgetJones , shame as it felt like a possible first choice (esp child free which is definitely a bonus!) from a travel perspective. Definitely looking for fancy so will look at the royal crescent, and look again at longleat given that travel info @littleluncheon , thanks :-)

I love the lido in Clifton, it's a real oasis hidden amongst buildings. Easy to get to as well.

Sidge · 29/03/2025 19:19

Bowood?
Train to Chippenham then taxi or bus to Derry Hill.
