Celebrating 20th anniversary in/around Covent Garden?

Hi, DH and I are staying in Covent Garden soon for 3 nights for our 20th anniversary but we picked it because we went years ago and liked the area, we haven't got much planned to actually do.
Does anyone have ideas for romantic/special but not particularly hugely spendy/posh restaurants/places to go/things to do?
I want to pick somewhere for dinner on our anniversary but there's too much choice and we're both not massively sophisticated, anywhere like the Savoy would put DH on edge all night. Somewhere a bit more towards the Wetherspoons end of the spectrum but where you get treated well by friendly staff is more what we're set for!

We're planning to go to the National Gallery and the British Museum but that's about it so far.

As we're a bit older we don't want to walk miles or take the Tube all day but anything around the area would be great.

Clos Maggiore is v romantic. Hawksmoor? Big Easy if you just want casual?

The Delaunay.

Ave Mario had a bit of a wow factor inside but it's decent standard Italian food and casual dress code, not fine dining in dinner jackets!

Maybe not for anniversary dinner but brasserie zedel is a great setting and reasonable.

book a show!

wallace collection is a lovely museum as is the sir John soames.

We like Rules in Maiden Lane. It feels special because of its history, but it's not at all intimidating!

I forgot about Rules! Do you like meat OP?

Cafe Murano and San Carlo Cicchetti are lovely

(I'd steer clear of Rules for now - it has a hygiene rating of only 2!)

DH and I have just spent a week in London celebrating our 38th anniversary! Going home tomorrow.

We stayed in the Kings Cross area so can't help with restaurant suggestions near Covent Garden.

If you plan to go to National Gallery then consider pre booking. Last Saturday the queue for NG without pre-booked tickets was massive. We went in to the National Portrait Gallery instead which had no queue and was great.

We also did one of the Hidden London tours which TfL organise. Basically a guided tour in some bits of the Underground that are no longer used. Disused stations and tunnels that sort of thing. Once again, needs to be pre booked.

We also went to Borough Market which we loved as we are both foodies.

Some other things we enjoyed might not be your thing if you don't want to walk far. We had a lovely walk on Hampstead Heath; walked along the South Bank and back the other side; took the DLR to Greenwich for the day and also walked along Regent's Canal and visited Camden Market.

Oh we also visited Westminster Abbey which was nice.

The Courtauld Gallery is close by, and has some excellent Impressionist paintings.
Covent Garden is a bit uber-touristy and full of chain restaurants, but Tutton's brasserie is pretty good.
You can often book a tour of the Royal Opera House, which is fun.
For a show, try to get tickets for Operation Mincemeat at the Fortune Theatre - it's brilliant.
