I'm having a short break in Edinburgh with my adult son soon and after advice on must do places to go and any restaurants/bars/pubs to go to. Arthur's Seat and the Castle are definitely on our list and we've booked a free walking tour. Places to eat - we're looking for anywhere a bit different but not overly expensive (but any recommendations would be appreciated) and the same with bars/pubs. And if there are any with music maybe for some evening entertainment.....Our accommodation is in the West End if it makes any difference but it's only a short walk from the centre. Many thanks.

I live in Edinburgh :)
I recommend any of the Bon Vivant restaurants - lady libertine is lovely and the devils advocate is super fun in a quirky location. Also recommend Bonnie and Wild for an easy lunch or dinner. Try to stop at The Dome for a cocktail too :)

Surgeons museum, not surgery

  • The National Museum is amazing.
  • Visit Greyfriers Bobby statue and Kirk
  • The Royal Yacht Britannia
  • Museum of Childhood is also a lovely small museum
  • The Dome is spectacular - nice to pop in for a drink even if you're not eating there.
  • For great value French food with a relaxed atmosphere - Chez Jules is definitely worth a visit
  • For a traditional Scottish pub, try Deacon Brodie's Tavern
  • if you like Whisky, visit the Johnnie Walker Experience on Princes St

For inexpensive food on the Leith area:

Hungry Wolf (Georgian - just off Leith Walk)
Golden Ambal (South Indian - good Dosa)
Mirin (Japanese / ramen with a twist)
Ecosse Eclair (for sweet treats)

And if you feel like a more extravagant meal:

Duthchas - Scottish - 3 courses £55 / 6 £95

Hello mums of Edinburgh, l am a mum to a 5 year old and a Recent Business Management with Marketing graduate. Due to mum duities such as drop off and pick up from nursery l am lacking behind on networking to find a career after my graduation. I thought to ask my fellow mums for help and hope that l can meet up others with the same interests or in situations to direct me to the right place in my job searching ventures/ networking ventures. Thanks . Rose
