Please put my mind at rest and tell me I haven't made a horrible mistake booking a short break with Park Resorts ...

... Carmarthen Bay, to be exact. Booked a 4 night break in August then Googled and got some terrible reviews (about Park Resorts in general).

have never stayed there but have wandered around the Mudeford one, it looks OK, quite clean, very very pleasant holiday you would have there IMO. i think if you accept that it's not going to be cocktails with Richard Branson on Necker (and who fancies that anyway) they look fine. You don't have to stay there all the time - can use it as a base if it's not great. have lovely time!

Hi choosyfloosy, do you mean Bideford? (I live near Mudeford in Dorset!) A champagne reception would be nice {grin] but beer and chips is fine by me! I would prefer an isolated gite somewhere in France but thinking of DS, and he needs company and entertainment, and watching the pennies this year. I'm thinking more along the lines of is it a clean and safe environment really (I know what some caravans can be like).

have been to a couple of their sites. The accommodation has been fine, the facilities - swimming pool etc, fine. Other guests a bit dodgey in one place, fine in the other. You can of course just use it as a base for day trips out and avoid the evening entertainment etc,

We own a caravan at park resorts (Camber Sands) and it is truly wonderful - definitely the best year to go as they've spent a lot of money upgrading the park. However, August and a short break, booked direct, don't expect cleanliness to be high on their list. We do rent out to friends (mumsnetters included in this - Hi Chippy how are you?) but that's all.

choosyfloosy · 07/05/2008 18:25

no i meant mudeford in dorset - i'm pretty sure there's one there, I got a brochure and everything! hope you feel a bit reassured?

(notes MrsRecycle's details)

Is Mudeford that the fantastic location right by the sea wall? We often go to Avon Beach, and I look enviously at the people on their caravan verandahs as we walk past to ge to the crab fishing place. Have laways wnated to stay there, but assumed it was owners only - can you rent one for a week?????

ChippyMinton · 07/05/2008 19:24

we were at Nodes point over the holidays for a sparky krew fix lol

MrsBish · 07/05/2008 19:59

I'm interested to know what the Carmarthen Bay Park Resort is like too, if anyone's been there?

we're booked in for first week of August, but we can get out of it if we cancel before beginning of June!

MrsRecycle · 07/05/2008 20:52

MrsBish - we're not staying in our caravan the 1st week of August, if you fancy Camber Sands instead (and a spotless caravan with gas central heating on atop notch site even has a proper wooden cot and not a travel one). Price is a lot cheaper than Park Resorts as well - £450 for the week. You're in Surrey (I work in Guildford) as well - just round the corner from me in Middlesex so easy to get to Camber Sands.

Yes we've missed our sparky fix so are going down this weekend. There is actually a lot to do this season, even for the Under 5s - Aqua Babies/Tots/Musical playtime. In my 4 seasons going there, this is definitely the best, kids entertainment wise (bug hunts, treasure hunts) you name it.

ChippyMinton · 07/05/2008 20:55

all together now

Jodee · 08/05/2008 09:55

Hi everyone, thanks for replying - Choosy I know where you mean in Mudeford, it is a great location, as we go to Mudeford all the time, but was very confused as it's not in my Park Resorts brochure! Did a search and it's called Sandhills, run by Park Holidays UK.
, only slightly reassured, then, Mrs Recycle! I had looked into booking privately but we can't do a whole week, and everyone we contacted wouldn't do a 4 nighter unfortunately.

we would have done a 4 nighter...Oh well next time.

oh Chippy thank for my fix - I view it without sound and knew the song instantly as ds loves doing the "nanananahhhh" at the end.

MrsBish · 08/05/2008 13:02

Thanks for the offer MrsRecycle, but we're holidaying with my parents and brother and his family and they're all booked in at Carmarthen Bay.
