Eltham Palace - anyone from English Heritage on here?

A bit of a punt really, I want to visit Eltham Palace next week and I notice that their website says they're open new years eve and new years day but closed on 2nd and 3rd

Im wondering if this is a mistake because it doesnt make sense to me, but in any case new years eve or new years day is one of the days I would like to visit and if they have muddled up the opening dates online I dont want to get all the way there and find them shut

Anyone happen to know?

Not from EH so this isn't the inside track but it looks like they are only open weekends and Bank holidays in the winter so the dates you have would be correct.

I agree.

If you really want confirmation then call them or book online.

We would have to leave before their lines open if I want to go on 30th which is a bit of a nuisance flex wise. Also Im not sure why they would be open on the Monday or Tuesday then if they're only open BH and weekends, although that does mean NYD is certainly open

Oh Ive just realised they're open tomorrow then so I can phone them then, hopefully the lines are manned.

I think 30th and 31st are just extra holiday dates then they go back into BHs and weekends only. That's what the app confirms.

They go back to all week in half-term as well so they do do extra holiday days

Lovely thank you

As predicted the phone lines arent manned and just direct you to the website.

Honestly you cant talk to anyone these days by phone.

We'll take a gamble that the days seem right based on holiday opening hours.

They might respond on Instagram?

soupfiend · 28/12/2024 10:56

I dont have an account and quite honestly if they have a phone number there is no point to that if it simply directs you to the website where you got the number from in the first place

Contact with organisations and companies these days is simply not good enough

But anyway, we'll go according to the website and hope for the best

I don't understand why there's any doubt about the opening hours. The app says the same as the website. It's open when it says it's open!

soupfiend · 28/12/2024 10:59

Yes Im just phoning to double check, dont people double check things?

We've had issues before with all sorts of things where the website says one thing and you turn up and the place isnt open. Its best to check things before embarking on a long journey surely.

Eltham Palace is open weird hours because its used as a wedding venue so much. I'd trust their website!

Only when the online information has caused me to doubt it. Like when it says their Easter hours and it's May and the haven't updated anything.

The app has a calendar that specifically shows the hours for each individual day. I wouldn't have any reason to doubt that.

Well as I say, I've lost count of the amount of times we have trusted reliable websites including EH and other stately homes, pubs, shops to find them shut. The website does show the calendar too ( I don't have the app), so i know what days it says I'm just keen to check things these days but as I said we'll go for the times it says
