What's Kings Cross like these days (especially travelodge?)

I'm planning ahead and see i could get a trvelodge room at Kings Cross for £29 for 4 next Feb half term. We are in Newcastle and thinking of a trip[ to London on a budget, me my mum my 2 dcs and my 2 nephews so would need 2 rooms and this is obv a good price. Have stayed in travelodge manytimes so am confident the hotel itself wld be ok and as we get the train to Kings Cross from Ncle from that point of view it wld be ideal. However whenever we go to london we get off the train and straight onto a tube, have never ventured outside at Kings Cross. I seem to remember it being a bit of a 'dodgy' area, would that be right? There's a horror story in the back of my mind about some tourist being gang raped not far from her hotel in that area and everyone saying that the staff in her hotel should have warned her not to venture out at night. Not that we'd be going far at night, prob back in hotel by 9.30 ish at latest

cancel that last post! thought it seemed to good to be true. Rooms are only for 2 people and the rate is only there for one night and we wanted about three. Never mind

Glad you are not going to stay there! My friend stayed at the travel lodge at kings cross at beginning of March and it was absolutely filthy apparently - they ended up sleeping in their clothes and when they went in the lift the next morning to leave, there was all vomit and drink in it from the night before! They did complain and thankfully got all their money back..
so I wouldnt reccommend it!
