Farm holiday - like Bosinver etc, but not that far!!

Have been going to Bosinver in Cornwall for a few years, LOVE it, but always feel that it is a long way (we are in East Anglia).
H has just left and I don't want to drive that far on my own really - it is a minimum 6hrs, have already booked for this year and taking my mum for some company.
Thinking about next year, and knowing how quickly these things book up...

Requirements:

  • nice cottage in on a farm surrounding with a number of other cottages, but not all squashed in together
  • animal feeding
  • playground
  • maybe a pool, but not bothered about that
  • things to do in area

Within about a 3 or 4 hr drive of Cambridge - so East Anglia, maybe Lakes?, south of London, maybe start of Devon, Midlands.

WE went to Nailey Farm Cottages near Bath last year - lovely accommodation, (converted barn) all quite low key - no organised activities. They had chickens, cows, sheep, pigs

furrycat · 01/05/2008 12:48

Meant to say no playground, near Bath. Bristol/ Cheltenham

This may be just as far for you as Cornwall, but we're going here this year - looks great but I can't give you a definite review yet!

I have been here three times torridge house it has had many good reviews on here.

The cottages are mostly semis so would not meet your criteria of not crowded.

ChasingSquirrels · 01/05/2008 14:06

thanks all - will have a look through.
Semi's are fine, It's jam packed full I don't want!

HI, We've just come back from Little Edstone www.littleedstone.co.uk was fabulous. We stayed in The Wheelhouse, 2 couples with 2 18mo boys - had a fabulous time, couldn't recommend highly enough. Cheers Kate

I second torridge house, we are going for the 2nd time this June. Last year we went in the 1st week when all the heavy raining started and we still enjoyed the place

Jbck · 13/05/2008 13:18

KB75 do you mind if I ask what you paid for the Little Edstone place as there are no prices on the website, it looks really lovely.

lisalisa · 13/05/2008 13:29

car25 · 20/05/2008 17:59

We love Torridge House too, although it is still quite a drive there. In fact we were there only last week.

Fab place, first place I have felt like I have really had a holiday with children!

kaybee75 · 25/05/2008 19:21

Hi Jbck, We paid £400 for 3 nights for 4 bedroom cottage , but think was reduced as was last minute booking, was much cheaper for the smaller ones. I just rang and asked for the price. Cheers Kate

Jbck · 03/06/2008 22:43

Thanks KB just saw this, they were fully booked for the dates I wanted. Did offer me 10% off the cost next year if I wanted to go back to them then.
