Does anybody know if you have to have a countersignature to change child to an adult passport after they turn 16 the gov website is unclear

If their appearance has changed from their last photo when you're renewing you'll need the photo countersigned.

It will be done as a renewal. If they can be recognised from their old photo then they don't need a countersignature

Can I just check you know you only need to get an adult passport once your child passport has expired? You don't automatically need one as soon as you turn 16.

And you can definitely use the child passport until it expires even if they are over 16. Dd only got her adult passport last year when she was 20.

Yes hers expires in march so luckily I can renew to an adult instead of her carrying on another 5 years on a child one!
