Places to stay in Newcastle

Hi we are considering stopping off in Newcastle on our way home from our summer holiday in Scotland next year. I don't know the city at all but would love to explore it with our 15 & 18 year olds.

Where would you recommend to stay please? We would need parking as enroute home but would use public transport to get around the city.

We usually use a Premier Inn or something similar to give an idea of budget.

Thank you

Newcastle quayside premier inn. Massive multi story car park near by.

If you are staying in the city centre you won't need public transport , it's small.

Thank you, we have a van so I will check if it will fit in the multistory

There is on street parking nearby, Gibson Street. At one time it had multiple restrictions on it which contravened each other, so parking was free, but I doubt it's still like that.

Motel one is in a great position, worked out cheaper for us than a premier inn. The breakfast wasn't great but there is a cafe about 2 mins walk away which is lovely

teampacey · 25/10/2024 14:30

I would recommend staybridge suites. Great as you get a studio rather than just room, parking available and good location

poorchurchmouse · 25/10/2024 14:33

Premier Inn in Whitley Bay - plenty of parking and 10 minutes’ walk from the metro into town. City centre hotels mostly have no parking, or it’s a multi storey with height restrictions that would be no good with a van.

QuillBill · 25/10/2024 14:37

City centre hotels mostly have no parking,

Well that can't be true as the Doctor who tried to murder his Mums boyfriend parked in a premier inn right in the city centre!

When you say van, do you mean camper van?

If so, have a look at Spillers car park, you could kip there and save on the hotel.

Oldraver · 25/10/2024 15:08

Sandman Signature, you will have to park in a close by multi storey

It has family rooms for four with bunk beds ..... Not you average bunk beds really sturdy chunky ones, suitable for adults. My 38 year old and 18 year old slept in them

It also has as little kitchenette

bagsofbats · 25/10/2024 15:20

@Nolongera no it's just a van, a transit type so some multistorey car parks are too low/tight.

Grand Hotel Tynemouth. Get a sea view room. Go for a walk on the beach after breakfast and pop on the metro into Newcastle City centre.

I second this hotel. Great location, directly opposite St James’ Park. Very central.

MiddleAgedDread · 25/10/2024 19:58

There’s a few hotels at the metro centre which might be easier for parking and it’s literally just off the A1, or the one at Gosforth park mentioned above would have been my suggestion too.

Sewsew0 · 25/10/2024 20:05

Three mile in Gosforth? Has parking, bus stop outside into Newcastle and family have stayed there for a reasonable price.

barkingdam · 25/10/2024 20:07

Check out the Doubletree Hilton,Gateshead. Its a short walk to city centre over pedestrian bridge and good value if you book now for next year.
