Hi dh and I are going to Edinburgh for weekend in November to watch Rugby. We are staying in city centre and would like somewhere nice for dinner on the Saturday night, would be very grateful for recommendations!

We absolutely loved Howie's. Classic Scottish food with a modern twist and in a lovely building.

The mash potato place is amazing. I can't remember what its called sorry but you can search for it. I had a veggie haggis with mash and it was soooo good.

If you like Italian, Tipo- not cheap but the food is sensational

Makers mash bar
It really depends what sort of thing you want and how much you're wanting to spend. There's no end of dining options at all budgets in Edinburgh......pub burgers or £80 a head instagram-able Chinese, what's your vibe??

Italien is fine as is Indian, as is traditional British, price wise preferably bill to come to no more than about £80 -£100 for the two of us.

Will look up the suggestions so far thank you.

Vittorias on George IV bridge for Italian
Mother India's cafe for Indian or Dishoom but the downside there is that you can't book

Chez Jules is great and an Edinburgh institution. Casual and inexpensive.

Or Fishers in the City

My daughter would recommend Tony Macaroni. This is an Italian chain restaurant. It is great value and fabulous food. We are in the south and my daughter is sad that Tony Macaroni is only in the north of the country.

seconding Mother India Cafe, which does Indian small plates so is tapas style
or El Cartel does decent Mexican, and margaritas!

Hyacinthandrichard · 22/10/2024 23:16

Mother India is nice

We went to City Restaurant, kind of like a chippy/cafe downstairs with a lovely seating area upstairs. Great gluten free options if needed. The staff were lovely too.

I had dinner at Monteith’s in August, it was divine.
