London Tube New Year’s Eve

So, I’ve always wanted to see the London fireworks in person. So, decided to buy a ticket last Thursday when they went on sale. I managed to get one in front of the London Eye. Great! However, I hadn’t factored in the crazy costs of hotels in London on NYE. I’m thinking of staying out near Kew Gardens station as I know the area well and there are rooms a lot cheaper for that night (I usually stay in the Richmond area anyway). As I’m a lone female, in my 50’s, I’m considering safety and I really didn’t want to be out on the tube so late at night (I’m normally tucked up in bed by 9pm).

Is the district line running on NYE and will it be safe?

Or, has anyone got any other ideas? I know London pretty well and tend to stay in the Richmond/Kingston areas when I’m down there (I know both well) as I love the parks and Hampton Court!

Im now wondering if I just shouldn’t bother as it’s too much hassle!!The train company I use isn’t operating on NYD (although I can use another or fly from Newcastle). I need to be back at work 2nd Jan.

Or, am I just mental to consider this?

The tubes are running sll night but not trains.

I had sans tickets last year. I am similar age. I warn you it was vet chaotic trying to get into the area (around 10.30) as the queue entrance was unclear and tons of non ticket holders were blocking it. Once we were in (45 mins of pushing and shoving) it was fine.
Took an hour to leave and walk to Pimlico which was close by to get tube home.

I see what you mean about the hotel prices! I just had a look at the Premier Inn, Balham (as I've stayed before and it's cheap) and even that one is over £200!

One thing about London at night and NYE in particular, is it will be so packed you will not feel like a lone woman. You could always get the 05.48 back to Newcastle on NYD and currently it's only £33.90!

Sorry, not very helpfully. I can't think of another workaround that's at a reasonable price 🤔

Or, keep checking Booking.com right up to the last minute to see if you can get a deal. There are bound to be cancellations.
