I'm travelling alone and will be arriving at either Paddington or Victoria the evening before an event at the Kia Oval from 9am-4pm and will be travelling home straight afterwards.
Can anyone suggest a hotel (budget around £150) or even just an area that would be convenient for arrival/ departure/ the Oval that is decent, preferably with a supermarket/ somewhere cheap and cheerful to eat nearby (it might be late when I arrive and I am a nervous traveller but happy to catch the tube and find my way around etc)
Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

Travellodge or Premier Inn? Loads around that Victoria and Oval. Likely to be in budget but will depend on day of week, assuming not Christmas party season (December / late Nov)

Lots of Ibis in London too.

Thanks- I'm trying to avoid too much walking around in the dark when I arrive and too far back to Paddington/ Victoria at rush hour but will look at Vauxhall

There’s a premier inn in Victoria. That would be the better station for Oval as well.

There is a travelodge right opposite oval cricket ground.

There’s a pub in Kennington called the Tommyfield that does b & b. Not sure of prices though. Also lots of hotels between Westminster Bridge Road and Waterloo - you could get a bus or tube from there to the Oval.

As above- there is a new travel lodge right opposite the Oval. From Victoria the 185 bus would take you directly there and the bus stop is opposite the travel lodge

Also just noticed the eating question. I'd grab something to eat at the market halls at Victoria Station. My favourite is Gopal's corner but they have lots of great options in there.

Or why not pop into Soho and soak up the character? They do those budget hotels now and you could eat at any number of places like pizza express or something more unusual. Tons of single diners and travellers in and about Soho.
Oval is on Northern line so easy enough to get to from Leicester Square.
I do love Soho though, I know it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Thank you, it's all really useful. Just need to check my budget for the hotel then will pinpoint exactly where works best

If you come in to Victoria you could change at Clapham Junction to a Waterloo train. There are a cluster of Premier Inn / Travelodge / Ibis hotels around Waterloo together with lots of places to eat. Short tube ride in the morning to the Ovel.
