Where to go in November

Any suggestions on 4/5 day break in the UK first week of Nov. Kids will be 11 and 13. Car not reliable, so ideally will travel by train. We are in the SW, so not Devon or Cornwall. I was looking at Manchester as we've never been, so any tips for around the NW would be welcomed.

We did a short break to Birmingham at that time of year and did lots of indoor things. Both dc enjoyed the Think Tank and the Bear Grylls adventure. My youngest went to the Lego Discovery Centre and eldest went shopping. Took the train to Cadbury World for a day and Warwick Castle another day. If your dc are into space, a day trip to the National Space Centre in Leicester is also possible.

Liverpool is a great compact city centre easy walkable with no car but good transport links to other areas. Lime Street station is in the middle of the city centre.
Loads to see and do at all budgets.

Nearly all museums are free too

Where do I begin? There is so much to see and do in Liverpool. Have a look at our page …

Manchester would be great but not sure I could spend 5 days there. Ciukd you do a night or two in Chester alongside 2 or 3 nights in Manchester?

MiddleAgedDread · 30/08/2024 09:06

Liverpool and Manchester would be a good combination with the option of a day trip to Chester.

York? Amazing place and Durham is nearby. Also Leeds,

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/08/2024 09:34

A combination of Manchester and Liverpool or York and Leeds could work well.

DolyKat · 30/08/2024 09:35

Another vote for York

In November.... as someone who lives in the NW (and likes it!) I'd probably aim for further south and/or east of the Pennines.

It's easy to get a train from Liverpool to Chester so you could have a day out in Chester, nice to see but I feel a day is enough. Dare I mention a night in Blackpool? It is what it is a Fish Chips and Bingo resort, light would be on I think? Not cheap but every one should go at least once. You can get the train to Blackpool then a Tram through the lights.
