Can you ask for a Passport interview online?

Hi all.

If you're asked for an interview, can you choose if you'd like one one rather than physically attending an office?

I'd rather not travel about 70 miles; would much prefer if it was virtual.

Thanks in advance.

Why not just look it up yourself and get the right answer …..than ask a load of randomers who will give you a variety of answers that may be right or wrong

They want to eyeball you in full, they won't do online.

marcopront · 24/08/2024 17:15

If they did do it which I doubt travelling 70 miles wouldn't be a good reason unless there is more information.

My daughter's friend had one on line. Don't know if it was offered or requested though.

You're very rude.

You could say that to about 90% of MN threads! No real need to be rude to OP.

Op, I'm sorry I don't know the answer.

whats rude about my comment? I have advised you ….you either take my advice or you don’t

Having recently needed to do an urgent renewal, there was no option for a virtual interview.

If you're just doing a normal renewal and can wait 2-3 weeks it's done by post and there is no interview.

I think because it's my first adult passport, it's possible there may be one.

Yes - my DDs friend had never had a passport (not even as a child).

dementedpixie · 26/08/2024 17:13

@James2025 if you've had a child passport then its not a First Adult Passport you are applying for; it's done as a renewal and you won't need an interview..

A first adult passport is for someone that's never ever had a passport as a child/in the past.

Chewbecca · 26/08/2024 17:15

Hope you will be up for travelling more than 70 miles when you have the passport!

tribpot · 26/08/2024 17:20

It looks as if video interviews are offered for people in 'remote parts of the UK' (which is unlikely to be 70 miles from a passport office) - full guidance here.
