M6 Motorway travel with 14 m/o - Where to stop?

Hello, my SO and I will be traveling from the Lake District to Oxfordshire by car with our 14 m/o soon. It's a 4-5 hour drive depending on traffic (dreading it!) and I'm just trying to find places we could stop en-route. We will be stopping around Wolverhampton for a rest with family before starting the final leg of our journey but does anyone have any suggestions for places to stop that won't take us too far of our route along the M6? Preferably places with a soft play so that LO can have a crawl around. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Just Kidding Holmes Chapel is quite close to junction 18.
Near Wolverhampton, there’s Lower Drayton Farm which is brilliant.

Will you be getting on the m40 quite high up?

If not rugby services which is junction one of the m6 (if not one then 2) and has soft play plus nice water feautures.

Oh wait sorry, have I misunderstood? You want a nice family thing rather than practical food and movement?

EHA · 02/08/2024 11:34

No no practical food and movement would be perfect. We're joining the m6 pretty high up at jct 40

Where do you leave the m6? I'd have thought to get to Oxford you'd go on the m40. I think it's higher than this services. Near the m42 ish.

Well I'm stopping at Wolverhampton to rest with family before we make our way to Oxfordshire via the m42. So I only need somewhere to stop on the m6

I don't have anywhere to stop but just wanted to say I had a similar journey recently with my one year old and despite normally not using screens much, a tablet loaded up with kids shows and a tablet holder absolutely saved us!
