Transport themed birthday weekend

My transport mad adult son is having a special birthday and we want to book a couple of nights away as a surprise. I was on the verge of booking this:

However, his teenage brother will be with us and will have to sleep in the bunk. Although he's not huge and apparently adults have slept in them, they're not full size and generally recommended for kids under 12! Otherwise, looks perfect!

Can anyone suggest anything else? Doesn't need to be limited to trains as he likes cars & buses too! Ideally not more than a couple of hours from London.

Thank you 😀

Have you been to the Crich Tramway Museum in the Peak District?

You could stay at Pickering station or just outside York there are definitely airbnbs transport themes there. There is the national railway museum in York (fab even though I’m not into trains) and the steam train from Pickering to Whitby.
