Restaurant recommendations London (near Southampton Row)

Hi going to London in a few weeks, staying at the Hilton on Southampton Row, going to the theatre in Shaftesbury Ave. Looking for dinner recommendations in between/ around/ near those roads. Any suggestions? We like most things (particularly Italian or steakhouses).

Barrafina on Drury Lane (Portuguese tapas);
Balthazar on Russell St (French);
Hawksmoor (steak) on the corner of Langley St and Shelton St

Better choices if your theatre is at the Piccadilly Circus end of Shaftesbury Avenue. Anywhere in Soho or Chinatown would be fine, or on the Charing Cross Road side of Covent Garden. Brasserie Zedel is my favourite.

Very close to Southampton Row you have The Delaunay on Aldwych which is one of my personal favourites. And just south of that is Sping in Somerset House which is fabulous.

And then towards Covent Garden and Soho the are so many great restaurants I wouldn't know where to start. The Ivy is a classic and very good.

I also have The Delaunay on Aldwych as a personal favourite - and it’s kind of theatrical so a good fit for your night out.

Some good recommendations thanks, I've been busy studying menus. The Delaunay and Balthazar both look great!

Italian I’d recommend Bocca di Lupo. Probably close proximity to your theatre. Do a theatre menu - you’ll need to book.

Steak - probably Blacklock to be close to Shaftesbury Av.

I was just going to say Blacklock for steak. So good.
