Just booking a cottage for next summer. Always been on my bucket list. Which island is best to stop on and easiest to island hop?
Will be 2 adults and 2 kids.

I don't know about island hopping, but the west coast of Harris is really wonderful.

We have visited Harris and Lewis. And they were spectacular.

Harris and Lewis is the biggest island, and has three very different landscapes to explore. Utterly beautiful. Try and avoid peak midge season.

We had a holiday in 2019 hopping up the entire chain from Barra through the history up to harris and Lewis and then back via Skye. We went in late April/early May which was before midges and not too busy... I'd imagine some of the single track roads get clogged with camper vans in summer.

Harris is the most spectacular, I think from there you could get to the interesting historic sites up in Lewis, and over to North Uist which was also lovely, and to Skye too...I've forgotten which ferry goes from where (and don't know how reliable they are at the moment)

You could start with Barra, then travel north to Harris.

You'll lose your heart to the Hebrides 💙

Thankyou so much!
I have some researching to do! I can't wait!
