Nice family hotel in Scotland

Looking for recommendations for a family-friendly hotel in Scotland. Nothing too pricey, and not Crieff Hydro as done that recently. Any ideas?

MacDonald resort in aviemore.

Thanks! Is that the one that has several hotels in one? Have you been recently? I've heard mixed reports.....

Haven't been there in a while, but Seamill Hydro used to be great

Beginningless · 22/07/2024 23:00

Auchrannie is lovely. We went to Peebles hydro recently and enjoyed. Dunblane hydro is alright too.

MirrorMirror1247 · 22/07/2024 23:01

Whereabouts in Scotland do you want to visit?

Nevergoodenoughforthem · 22/07/2024 23:03

The Macdonald is pretty basic as far as rooms go, and the sector is tired so would pick alternatives. Does it have to be a hotel?

That’s the one. We went a couple years ago and honestly really enjoyed it. We found the dining room we ate in a bit dated but food was good and our room was comfortable and clean and more modern. Had a really nice feel to it and enjoyed the facilities. Aviemore is a nice wee village and we spent a day at Loch Morlich and the Highland Wildlife Park. Landmark is nearby too which is great family fun!

Just been having a look at Peebles Hydro. It doesn't look to have quite as much for children as Crieff but looks lovely none the less.

We are pretty open to areas as we are central so can get to most places easily enough. Just looking for somewhere with things to do for the kids, but also quiet and relaxing. Like the idea of a hotel with a pretty village/town nearby so we can get out and explore

Yeah that's what I'd heard.

Nope, totally open to a B&B or self catering too

There is so much to do for kids in and around Aviemore. Not been for a while so will definitely add it to the list to consider. Thanks!

I've looked at that one in the past and discounted due to some dodgy reviews. Aberfeldy is very pretty though. Will have a other look. Thanks

In that case Mabie House Hotel near Dumfries might be a good choice. It's right in the middle of a forest, close to a few villages and towns with plenty for kids to do nearby. Not sure of prices but I stayed there a couple of years ago for a wedding and thought it was lovely.

Cally Palace in Gatehouse of Fleet is old and twee and my kids loved it when they were small.

The surrounding areas is fantastic.

Peebles Hydro is fine but I preferred Cally Palace.

Crieff Hydro is so expensive and so busy.

Nevergoodenoughforthem · 22/07/2024 23:23

Highland Retreats have some gorgeous cottages in and around Rothiemurchus. So much for everyone to do! We spend a week there in most summers (not this year sadly).

Awrite · 22/07/2024 23:25

Oh yes, Auchrannie is superb.

OatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 22/07/2024 23:25

Charleton Estate eco lodges on the Fife coast. Beautiful walks on the doorstep, wood burning hot tub and outdoor fire.

Near St Andrews, Elie, Anstruther, Crail etc. Dundee not far away.

Museums, ruins, Aquarium, boat trips, fruit picking, Food market, shopping, parks etc plus stunning costal walks, seal spotting and amazing fish and chips!

Never come across this one, though have been to that area a few times and loved it. Thank you!

I'll take a look, thank you! Love the area around Gatehouse of Fleet, though I don't know anything about the Cally Palace.

Have you stayed at Peebles recently?

Looks amazing but mostly booked for when we were considering unfortunately. Thanks though

Love Arran, though the ferry problems of late put me off a bit.

So much choice now, thanks everyone. Going to spend time looking through them all today

Just to say, I went to Macdonald Aviemore and was so disappointed. Very expensive and dated. This was approx 6 years ago so perhaps it's better now. The others mentioned are nice.
