Any tips of nice places to visit please? Will be based in Porthmadog

was thinking of some castles, Conwy, Harlech, Caernarfon? Maybe going over to Anglesey to Beaumaris castle and / or South Stack lighthouse. Maybe the zipline if I’m feeling brave.

anything else? Any nice towns to potter round with some independent shops/coffee shops?

Llanberis is a lovely day out, rain or shine!

plenty of cafes, ice cream, couple of pubs, walks, slate museum (free) and the quarry hospital (free). Well worth a visit to see how tough life was for our forefathers.

enjoy!

Caernarfon or Conwy definitely.
National Slate Museum is well worth a visit.

Bodnant Garden is wonderful but won't be as nice in wet weather but don't let that deter you

Portmeirion, it’s beautiful and right on your doorstep.

Get the train to Cricieth., visit the castle and then walk back to Portmadog along the coast.

Conwy is great but Harlech or Barmouth would be nearer to your location.
The Llyn Peninsular has a bit of a Micro climate if its raining in the Snowdonia area often Llyn is sunny.

The castles have some videos etc but at least half I’d say is outside. Beaumaris isn’t bad for nice shops etc. There’s also a copper mine museum nearby which we didn’t make it to but looked weatherproof.

National Slate Museum
Llanberis is also good for a little potter.
Beaumaris

Anywhere with a pub…..as my DP always tells me…..it doesn’t rain in the pub

Sorry, hadn’t realised I’d had replies. The sun actually shone the whole time. Went to Conwy and Harlech castles, Barmouth, black rock sands. Also coed y brenin. Never made it over to Anglesey or the zip line. Maybe next time.
