Morning all

Flying out of BHX next Saturday afternoon and wondering how horrible the queue situation is ...

I'm not on any SM so can't check there but googling isn't bringing anything recent up )hoping that's coz there's nothing to report?!!).

Our bag drop opens 3 hours before flight so cab booked 3.5 hours before. Night before drop off not an option.

Has anyone been through recently lunchtime onwards that can advise how queues to drop off bags are ? Then how long for security?

Also the liquids in hand luggage thing - is it still containers of 100ml max?

Thanks in advance Grin

A pal went through Brum airport about a week ago and said it was very busy. That may have improved since tho.

The airport allows you unlimited 100ml bottles in hand luggage but no bottle bigger than that. You don't have to put them in a plastic bag tho. See here

Thanks clary, and that's what I'd understood with regards liquids.

Wondering whether it's much busier than normal busy IYSWIM? We normally fly from lovely little East Mids so compared to there everywhere is a sensory overload even in a quiet day Grin

Also flying from Birmingham this week, so watching the replies

MissyB1 · 07/07/2024 12:43

I'm there now 😀 from arriving at the Jet 2 entrance to getting bag dropped and through security took about 35 minutes. All very smooth and efficient. Staff were polite and helpful. We arrived at 11am for a 13:50 flight. I was sooo nervous of big queues!

clary · 07/07/2024 12:57

On the spot intel there from @MissyB1 😀👏

I would hazard a guess that you'll be ok with an afternoon flight, most of the issues I've heard of have bern from the rush from all the early morning flights at 6/7am

Peakypolly · 08/07/2024 20:28

I find the early morning flights are the issue, but buy a £7 fast pass, turn up at your allocated fast pass time and you can efficiently pass through in 30 mins.

Gulbekian · 08/07/2024 20:40

I went through on Sunday 30 June at lunchtime (about 1pm). It was relatively busy and took about 45-60 mins from start to finish (excluding bag drop). Friends who came through two hours later said it took about the same. My impression was that it was busy but that the queues were being very well-managed by the airport staff.

Lifeinlists · 08/07/2024 20:49

I dropped DS off there on Saturday afternoon and it was fine. He then sent me a text complaining we'd arrived too early (my fault, obvHmm) . No problems - he was flying with Easyjet.

Feeling much better folks - really appreciate replies, thanks Grin

Just got through security, flying out today at 07:45 with Jet2. Arrived at Birmingham airport 05.45, took us 50 minutes including one bag check that got caught in security, for us to get through to Departures. Arrived in plenty of time and you'll be fine but it's not crazy as it was a few weeks ago apparently.

lemonyellows · 22/07/2024 07:13

This is good news @CookieDoughKid have a great trip. Glad to know things are getting better. I heard it was morning flights that were the issue. We bought fast track just in case for pm flight as was £5 each. Worth for piece of mind

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 24/07/2024 18:41

Hi all we've literally just got home at BHX and in cab on way home.

It was very smooth on the way out and probably took 45 minutes tops after doing bag drop then straight to passport control and security. All straight forward although the little ankle zips on my Josh joggers confused the x ray machine and staff Grin

Thanks all for sharing experiences and reassurance!
