London markets, Borough, Camden etc

Spending 2 days in London next week with 2 17 year old girls. Friday I will be alone as they plan to queue for Taylor Swift. Second day we will be together. Are there any markets you would recommend for either day? I always hear about Borough market. Is it just regular food or specialty? And are any markets good for teen girls? Both doing art but not particularly alternative?

Or am I better looking for a high street or museum for the Saturday?

My DD18 loves Covent Garden. Loads of cool shops, Muji, Brandy Melville, subdued, uniqulo, glossier, urban outfitters to name but a few! Lovely restaurants too and a nice vibe.

I came on to suggest Covent Garden too!
Borough Market is just food, and gets very busy on a Saturday. As does Camden, which might appeal to a 17 year old but probably won't to you...
Could you also go to a gallery if they are doing art, maybe something related to their course? The National Gallery, Tate Britain and Tate Modern are all free and huge but there are lots of commercial galleries you can visit for free too.
The National Gallery, or National Portrait Gallery next door, is close to Covent Garden.

Borough is pretty much just food and drink stalls and shops, very expensive but really good and also has some nice eating and drinking places. It can get extremely crowded, especially Fridays and Saturdays.
Camden market would be more varied and might appeal to teenage girls more.

Portabello Rd market on a Saturday but no idea what it's like these days.

What about Spitalfields market? It’s less crowded than Camden, and isn’t just food like Borough (although there is plenty of food!)

My 18 yr old loves Portobello Market.

Camden is good, will appeal to both generations, well both dd and I like it!

Spitalfields is v good. And Greenwich too.

I like borough market a lot, but the last time I was there on a Saturday I vowed not to do it again on a weekend.

It’s frustratingly crowded!

Borough is very busy and mostly food. Won't particularly appeal to teen girls imv.

My teens loved Camden.

ImNotReallyHere · 12/06/2024 00:14

Thanks everyone. So is Camden or spittalfields for teens?

Spitalfields is great. Loads of stalls, surrounded by great selection of permanent shops and restaurants. Cross over the road afterwards and you pass by the Ten Bells (Jack the Ripper pub) and you’re then in Brick Lane for a second market with a funkier vibe plus arty stuff.
