Best sandy beach near Canterbury?

We are going to canterbury for a couple of nights tomorrow and want to take our children to a sandy beach. Which is the best child-friendly and easily accessible beach? I was thinking of Broadstairs only as I remember it being sandy (and had Morellis!) but have just read bad reviews of it being dirty.

Minnis Bay (Birchington) - But check if the May seaweed is up on the beach as that won’t be great.
Joss Bay
St Mildred’s Bay
Botany Bay
Viking Bay
and, of course, Margate.

btw, obviously check tide times and if you plan on going in the water, Joss Bay has some strong rip tides so be aware.

Please check in advance - I believe minnis bay is currently closed due to an algae problem causing the death of much wildlife
also southern water pump sewerage into the sea around here at an alarming rate

Dymchurch. It's on the south coast, so a bit further away, but it's vast, so it's possible to escape the crowds.

Botany Bay/Joss Bay. Lovely part of the coast.

Joss Bay or Botany Bay, if you want smaller beaches.
Broadstairs, Margate and ramsgate if looking for a bigger busier location.
Hope weather holds for you 🤞

Dymchurch is great, I’ve just got back from there tonight. Lovely vast sandy beach and some rides and amusements.
Check tide times though because at high tide the sea comes right up to the sea wall and there’s no beach ☀️

Sunny sands, Folkestone ☺️ check tide times

I have been at Minnis Bay today and it was lovely. No seaweed or algae issues. Check for high tide as there is no beach left so plan accordingly.

Another vote for botony Bay or sunny sands!

CanteringAlong · 25/05/2024 21:23

i'm going to try broadstairs and go for joss bay. I hope it's not crowded as my children aren't used to it. I promised Morellis so will drive there after. Is there a car park near Morellis? We love Dymchurch and may go there the next day if the weather stays dry !

Harbour car park - although no idea what the cost is currently, parking charges have gone insane round here lately. Or try for a place along Western Esplanade

thank you
