Devon/Cornwall/Dorset - help me pick a town or village to stay in?

Hi everyone, we’re looking for recommendations for a nice town to stay close to. Our criteria would be:

  • A nice beach close by
  • A town or village that is good to have a wander round
  • nice cafe’s/pubs close by
  • accessible with a pram/young children (no steep hills to walk to places)

bonus points if someone can recommend accommodation!

We’re happy to stay anywhere that isn’t camping in a tent / shared toilets or showers.

Thank you

The area of St Ives called Downalong is flat and from there it’s a flat walk to the harbour and to Porthmeor beach. You can still take in quite a bit without encountering any hills. There are restaurants within a very short walk.

Woolacombe in north Devon.
Two lovely beaches plus a fair few shops/pubs/cafes.
A teeny little funfair type place near the front with little bumper boats etc.
There are some nice holiday parks with lodges too. We stayed at Woolacombe sands and would recommend.
