Hi, I’m early 50s female and will be spending a day in Edinburgh in a couple of weeks time. I love mooching around cities but wondered if there are any must do / see things? I want to treat myself to an early dinner, if possible seafood rather than fish, somewhere casual with a nice view / people watching opportunities so am hoping for some recommendations. I was looking at Ship on the shore in Leith, before getting the tram to the airport, but am open to any better suggestions. Thanks!

I wouldn't schlep all the way down to Leith just to eat if you only have one day and need to be at the airport later. There is so much to see and do in the city centre. If you Google you will see there are a number of restaurants in the centre with nice views either of the castle or over the Forth.

Too far to go to Leith and then all the way back to the airport on the tram.

Seafood wise there is the Mussel Inn on Rose Street and also Fishers in the City. Not eaten at either in recent years though.

For a day, I’d get off public transport at the East End/Waverley and walk up Cockburn Street and onto the Royal Mile. I’d then visit the Real Mary King’s Close and then head up to the Castle esplanade for the one o’clock gun and to see the views. I’d then walk to Grayfriars Bobby, down through the Grassmarket and then through Princes Street Gardens back towards Waverley Station. I’d the. Go for dinner, if I had time or something quick if not before the tram to the airport
