Where shall we go on holiday?

Ideas please

Trying to find a cheap (but not tents or caravans) holiday in the UK for DH, me and 20 month old DD, where there would be things to interest and occupy DD but also scenery close by for short walks, and indoor options for if it decided to tip down with rain for all the time we were there.

So far, DH has suggested Blackpool. Any other ideas? (doesn't have to be like Blackpool!!)

Before DD was born, DH and I liked going away to scenic places and doing lots of walking, but we want to make sure there's stuff that DD would enjoy too.

Thanks

Where are you? How far do you want to travel?

There are beautiful bits of the UK all over the place, and a 20 month old would probably love to be on a farm somewhere. I recommend the New Forest very highly, tho it can be expensive. Lots of flat walking, can cycle, look at horses, cows and even pigs grazing free to roam. Also lots of lovely beaches nearby.

We had perfectly idyllic holiday there in September including a lot of blackberry picking, apple picking and crumble making with 2.5 yo and 6 mo.

Whitby? The youth hostel there has reently been done out and is very nice. You can get family rooms too and there is loads to do - beaches, little shops, walks, play areas etc

Dorset is a lovely county.

Ooh I've always wanted to go to Whitby. How sad is that!

(To not have gone, I mean!)

We've just come back from a lovely weekend on the Dorset coast. Some lovely sandy beaches in Swanage and Studland area. Pretty deserted at this time of year. Lots of nice walking in flatish countryside. Lovely RSPB reserve at Arne. Not far from Poole and Bournemouth if it's chucking it down. Sandbanks area fab for water sports. Monkey World and a Tank Museum nearby (if you like that sort of thing) nearby too.
