Its a difficult one as the UK has so many places to see all different.
I would recommend North wales start at Liverpool, travel to Chester then into North Wales hug the coast all the way to Aberporth in mid Wales, spectacular scenery, beaches hills great little towns.
Just a few ideas

Northumberland

It depends what you want. If it's good walking then the Lake District or Northumberland are great.

If its a city break you're after then there are so many wonderful places to choose. Liverpool, York, Leeds, Bath, Oxford to name but a few.

What do you want? History? what type? scenery? wildlife? city? Walking? Adventure? Attractions? Gardens?

Here are some of my favourites

History - London, Salisbury plain,
Scenery - Wales, Scotland, Yorkshire, Devon,
Wildlife - New forest, Scottish highlands and Islands
Walking - Brecon Beacons, Yorkshire
Adventure - Isles of Scilly, Northumberland coast
Attractions, Monkey World, Thorpe Park, Space Centre,
Gardens - kent

It really depends what you want. There are many amazing places throughout the country.

Lake district will always be the top of my list for scenery.

I love York for a couple of nights away.

There are lots of lovely costal areas but again it depends what your after.
