Hmm, I just stayed in a travelodge and it was GRIM. Whole building smelt as if no-one had ever opened a window, their idea of hoovering certainly isn't mine, walls and bathroom tiles were stained... willl not be going back.

choosyfloosy · 29/03/2008 22:34

days inn ime nicest

although this always relative

SlightlyMadSweet · 29/03/2008 22:36

hmmm, looks like the best options are Travelodge at £40 (cheapest) 20miles from Dover, or premier inn (£70) at the ferry terminal....a bit more than I was hoping to pay.

can i strongly recommend staying on a farm instead

you have to be a little bit careful about arriving late, but often OK by arrangement

Alkham Court came up on farmstay Uk for Dover

seems to be about 45 for a double - hope that's not per person though

winestein · 29/03/2008 22:39

The chains are the most expensive in my experience. I use them on business sometimes as they are easiest - cheapest and BY FAR the best are those that are googled, off the beaten track (or business track).

For example, stayed in the Penrallt Hotel in southwest Wales recently - cheaper and better than a bloomin faceless Premier Inn.

SlightlyMadSweet · 29/03/2008 22:40

That is per person per room. At that rate we would need 2 rooms and it would be £180...

Just back-read thread - Travelodge is on my "Never never never in a month of Sundays" list.

Last time I was forced to stay in one was in Glasgow - asked where we could get breakfast and they examined a watch and advised that a burger van two streets away opened in an hour. That was the least of their crimes too...

SlightlyMadSweet · 29/03/2008 22:43

I would be quite happy with some sort of B&B. TBH if I can get it cheaper than £70

D*mn. Sorry. I'm always catching myself out like that so you'd think I'd have learned.

winestein · 29/03/2008 22:46

I just found this googling

You might get something cheaper with a bit of research

choosyfloosy · 29/03/2008 22:46

right my blood is up

what about this place hubert house

SlightlyMadSweet · 29/03/2008 22:56

No worries Chooseyfloosey, looks like a nice idea but unfortunately too expensive.

I just assumed the chains were as cheap as you can get and easiest.

TY winestein, there are a couple on that list which look to be about the same price for B&B as the premier Inn room only.

I will have a closer look

The Travelodges do vary but the one in Margate Westwood, Kent, seems quite good on the review overall and is rated No 1 for the area on Tripadvisor.

Travelodge Kent review

Is that the one you were thinking of?

I always use Tripadvisor to help me and stayed at the Travelodges rated highest by them, in Manchester and Liverpool and they've been fine.

I've already booked for a new one that's opening in Chester in July.

Have a look on laterooms.com

SlightlyMadSweet · 30/03/2008 17:08

ty

we have just had a little cash bonus so I think we are going to do the Premier Inn at the ferry terminal. We are travelling with SIL and she is staying there so it has the added convenience that it will be easier for us to link up anyway.

Thanks for thwe last 2 links though...looking for a hotel in Paris with them now
