Somewhere nice to stay in London that won't bankrupt me- any ideas?

DH is planning on taking the girls (4 and 6) to London for a couple of days to see the sights. Can anyone recommend any places to stay? It will need to be 1 room, child friendly and not too pricey.
Any other hints and tips also gratefully received.

travelodge in Covent Garden is cheap, clean and central. If you get a family room there will be a double bed and a sofa bed. Take shampoo and conditioner though, they don't provide that. There are towels and bedding.

WWW I stayed there a couple of weeks ago. £105 for a room. It is very central though.

Try the travelodge website you can search for rooms in all london ones. We are staying at kings X for £19 next weekend! There is a bit you click on the home page of the website that takes you to a part of the site where you can search for rooms - most I've seen in london are no more than £59 anyway. Oh and of you book on line the breakfast (free for kids) is 10% off.

Wedgiesmum, when you get to the Kings Cross one, try to make sure they put you in a room overlooking the road, not the train station. Otherwise you'll be able to hear the station announcements at all hours.

Lol!Thanks for warning Peaches! was there the other week and spent a lovely time counting all the train carriages going past our window. DS has an ASD and had to be dragged away from this new hobby so that we could actually go to see Joseph - I mean surely it is worth losing £150 on tickets to watch TRAINS!!!! Not sure we would hear the announcements over the screams and shouts as I drag him down the corridor again.....

at least the rooms are all standard sizes and you know what you're getting

Holiday Inn Express in Victoria is great value for money.

they have family rooms, its a lovely part of london ( The bus stop - no 24 is right outside that takes you past big ben, trafalgar sq etc.

Think it was £78 pnight.

I was impressed with it- its more Pimlico area, very nice

If you book travelodges in advance you can get much cheaper deals, we paid £49 a while back

Or Marriott at County Hall but I don't think that's particularly cheap. It is central though.

I think with a lot of travelodges you have to ask not to be in a room on the noisy side since so many of them are at the side of dual carriageways but the covent garden one was really quiet.

If your dh and kids do end up at the Kings Cross Travelodge, Corams Fields is a park where adults have to be accompanied by children to be allowed in, and it's meant to be lovely - I must take DS there one day (should have gone when I went to visit on maternity leave).

If he does end up in that area, Chalton Street on the station side of Euston Road, just east of Euston station, has much cheaper cafes for meals than the ones near Kings Cross station. I often spend lunchtime in Albertinis, haven't seen them recently but I've seen quite a few parents bring kids in.
