Recommendations on a nice family holiday where there are gorgeous sandy beaches???

We have decided to stay in the uk this year as prices on going abroad seem to massive!

So any recommendations for somewhere for a family holiday, bits for the kids to do & nice sandy beaches.

Kids are 5 & 2 look at anything from little cottage to caravan (not a massive park though)

Any ideas? we did Devon last yr so not there, was thinking Isle of wight, have been but went camping & i did not enjoy it because of this!

Not sure where you are but the most beautiful beaches I have seen in the UK were in Northumbria. I'm from the West Country but thought the Northumbrian coast looked stunning.

ScoobyDoo · 29/03/2008 07:54

We are in the south, will look northumbria up now see what i can find, thank you for suggestion.

The Gower is beautiful and very unspoilt.

branflake81 · 29/03/2008 16:27

I agree - Northumbria has the most beautiful beaches. Bit nippy, but lovely.

Lilymaid · 29/03/2008 16:29

If you want a good beach, Holkham must be on the list

Leslaki · 29/03/2008 16:33

west coast of Scotland and the islands. Fantastic beaches!

PeachesMcLean · 29/03/2008 16:35

Another vote for Tenby - well anywhere in West Wales really. Stunning beaches. Tenby for the kids.

MrsWeasley · 29/03/2008 16:37

Saundersfoot - not far from Tenby. In fact most of the Pembrokeshire coast! We go caping there at least twice a year!

Blondie79 · 30/03/2008 10:43

Sorry - Camping not caping!!!!!

ScoobyDoo · 30/03/2008 10:47

Tenby, definitely. North beach a bit smaller than south beach, which goes on for miles - castle beach joins on to the south beach, except at high tide. Harbour beach is v small, wouldn't bother with that one. They're all v close together though - maybe 10 minutes walk. So you can easily try all of them and decide which is your favourite.

Guernsey has lovely sandy beaches and is very family-friendly, plus the climate is often a bit milder than even the south of the mainland.

JackieNo · 30/03/2008 10:55

We've used FB Mason to book cottages - they have a good search facility, so you can specify dates, no of bedrooms etc.

tiredemma · 30/03/2008 10:55

we stayed here
www.harbourholidays.co.uk/property.php?pid=162&type=town

last august- very small property but perfectly central (seagulls a bit of a pain though!)

Lots of beautiful beaches and lots to do in the area.

Padstow is lovely, we was so impressed that we are going back this sept

have a look at that site though, they have some reasonably priced cottages for june.

ScoobyDoo · 30/03/2008 10:56

Thanks Jackie & tiredemma, i am now off to have a look at your link

my favourite beach in uk isthis one in pembrokeshire.

AbbeyA · 30/03/2008 11:12

Pembrokeshire has lots-whitesands bay is nice. Jersey has fantastic beaches and Cornwall. Caerhays is nice in Cornwall if you want a quieter one(west of Gorran Haven and Mevagissy).

ScoobyDoo · 30/03/2008 11:14

That beach looks lovely in wales.

Don't really want to go to cornwall as we have done that alot, mevegissy is lovely i agree, especially in the evening.

We went to Devon last year was nice but i thought cornwall was nicer.

Hi annemarie-I didn't notice that you had already put the link to Whitesands Bay! It is my favourite and fantastic for children. I stayed there as a child in a caravan and went back with my DCs in a cottage. Be warned-it can rain!! It did with us-both times.
