Check trip advisor reviews, rooms on the front could be noisy at night as the grassmarket is a big night out type of area (the sort of place stag and hen parties would gravitate to). For sightseeing it’s a decent location though.

I agree. Central location but may be busy and noisy.

I stayed years ago. It's a great location, but is right next to a bit known as the pubic triangle, so can attract a lot of stags dos etc and can be pretty noisy.
The hotel itself is really lovely.

It's a really nice street but that's a prime tourist land, lots of pubs and Harry Potter walking shit.

It's quite loud. I I've stayed in a hotel 30 seconds down the street and struggled to sleep because it's so loud at night. If it's warm you can't open your windows because it's so loud.

There's also a very sweet busker who positions himself right by there, seems like a nice guy and a local legend of sorts but his voice is horrendous 😂

Basically, very pretty but busy and loud.

I stayed here, a few years back mind. I paid extra for a castle view room. I enjoyed seeing all the crowds in the street in the evening out of the window.
I stayed in November though so perhaps avoided the worst of big crowds hanging about in the street, and there's no way we'd have wanted the window open!
Location was great ring so central but I can't say it was the most amazing hotel.
