Looking for 2-3 nights for me, DH. DD + dog within 2 hour drive of Durham. We always tend to go to Northumberland/Borders, just come back from Edinburgh so would like alternate suggestions. Not keen on Scarborough/Whitby.and done the Lakes to death.

East Briscoe Farm Cottages near Barnard Castle www.eastbriscoe.co.uk pool, hot tub, play area, dogs allowed (full disclosure, I run it!) It's about 50 minutes from Durham and near High Force waterfall, Bowes Museum, Raby Castle for things to do.

We had a lovely stay in Harrogate and visited Brimham Rocks, Bolton Abbey and Fountains Abbey.

Runswick Bay?
Kielder?
Northalleton?
Yarm?
Richmond?
The Barnard Castle suggestion sounds good.

Yorkshire Dales - Malham, Bolton Abbey, Ilkley Moor
North Yorkshire Moors area - Helmsley, Dalby, Forrest, steam railway
Yorkshire coast - you say you’re not keen on Whitby/Scarborough but have you been to Runswick bay, robin hoods bay, staithes?

you could do a trip combining North Yorkshire moors & coast.

would Peak District be a bit far?

No problem. In that case we love the North York moors. Robin Hoods Bay is wonderful - lots of rockpools and fossils.

Bakewell? Good walking locally, nice town. Or more rurally nearby, Tideswell.

Skipton and surrounding area.

Bottom of the Dales - Skipton and Grassington area. Really beautiful and plenty of places to visit.

penelopepinkbott · 10/03/2024 17:48

Harrogate, ripon, skipton.

Thanks everyone. We have 2 nights in Grassington booked and then 2 nights in Harrogate. I'm from Yorkshire so rather embarrassed that I didn't think of the Dales!
