Manchester - where to stay for opera house

Hello,

We're going to see a show in the Manchester Opera House later this year. We'll be staying overnight, would like to be able to go for food before the show and drinks after. Ideally all this within walking distance so we don't have to worry about working out public transport or getting taxis (we're quite a big group).

We'll be travelling to Piccadilly station but don't mind getting taxis from/to there.

Could anyone suggest whereabouts we should be looking that would meet our criteria? Even just a pointer of which direction from the opera house is best for bars would be helpful.

Thanks!

Manchester city centre is pretty walkable. The Opera House is just off Deansgate.
The Moxy Manchester City is literally round the corner at the back of the opera house. Also nearby: Hilton Manchester Deansgate, The Midland, The Edwardian and Marriott Victoria & Albert but they'll be more expensive.
If you're looking for more budget then the Premier Inn Manchester City Centre West is a short walk along Quay Street and over the River Irwell (which the purists will argue makes it in Salford not Manchester!), or the Premier Inn Manchester Central and Manchester City Centre aren't far to walk. Also the Leonardo Manchester Central.
There's a free shuttle bus runs around the city centre which you might find useful from Piccadilly if you're staying close to the theatre, or hop on the tram for a couple of stops.

There are many within walking distance, this result, for a wee browse, is from google maps 🙂

As @NotFastButFurious said, but Manchester is very walkable, so it's almost impossible to be in the wrong location (maybe not right out by Piccadilly) as nothing is particularly far away.

Yotel Deansgate too!

Thank you all for taking the time to reply :) sounds like we can't go too far wrong which is reassuring! I'll have a look at the suggestions here - thanks again!
