We're looking at spending a week in a caravan on the south west coast of Scotland - Ayrshire, Dumfries and Galloway.

Has anyone got any recommendations? Or any avoid at all costs sites?

Thanks!

Friends have recommended these, but I have not been to either yet

Brighouse Bay

Sundrum Castle

Not stayed at these ones but they are in great locations.

The Ranch near Culzean castle and the samll town of maybole. PIL have been on the site for a nosy (too close to their home to warrent staying there), they chatted with the owner and were impressed.

Culzean Caravan and Camping Site fantastic location in the grounds of Culzean castle, you can walk onto the grounds proper, via the front gate (show NT membership or get a weekly ticket at a good discount) or through the bottom of the caravan site down the track (for nothing bar you guilt ).

List here

Note Graig Tara (Haven) is am ex butlins huge complex although the touring park is up the top of the site seperate from the statics and bars etc. Sundrum (Parkdean) is another complex site, but much smaller.

Ah right then the fab one at culzean is no use then. Same with the ranch it is for tourers or people with their own statics.

This one Heads of Ayr is near to those two if you like that area.

We took our tent to Brighouse Bay last summer for 10 days. We really enjoyed it, even though the weather last summer was dire. There is plenty to do on site - we went rockpooling, went to the swimming pool, went pony trekking, made sandcastles, fished in the fishing ponds, played putting. dd played at the children's playpark each evening. The Clubhouse did reasonable bar meals. We also visited a number of places in the area that were very close - Cream O'Galloway Ice Cream Factory (a must!), Galloway wildlife Park, the David Coulthard museum, a small Chocolate factory, and saw the red kites being fed at Bellymack Farm. I would definitely go back.
