Area and accommodation recommendations for north midlands

Well I think it would be classed as north midlands!

Myself, my husband and our two year old will be in the UK this summer. We’ll be in Yorkshire (Halifax area) for a few days to visit family and then we need to travel to Leicester to a wedding.

I’m not seeing anywhere I’d like to stay in Leicester and as we’d have to kill time between check-out and the wedding, I figured that if we stayed approximately 1- 1.5 hours away then we can get ready, hop in the car, the child might nap and we won’t have to hang around on the other end before the wedding begins.

So I’m looking for nice places to visit for an afternoon and night around Mansfield/Nottingham/Derby area. I think anywhere in the Peak District would be too far to drive from the next morning but happy to be corrected.

Ideas to visit-
Chatsworth adventure park or gardens (near Bakewell)
Gullivers Kingdom in Matlock, or Matlock Bath
Carsington Water
Crich Tramway village
If you are NT members, there is also Sudbury, which has a museum of childhood.

You could overnight in Matlock, Belper, Ashbourne, Wirksworth, Ripley area and then just be over an hour to Leicester.

Agree with PP’s suggestions. There’s a hotel at Gulliver’s Kingdom, although you can also stay over at Gulliver’s Valley, which is less of a detour for you and still under 1.5 hrs from Leicester. It has loads to do with a 2yo
